The Singularity has started, but just not equally for everyone.
When I mention "singularity" to people it evokes many feelings and has many definitions. I am anchoring on a facet from Ray Kurzweil's seminal book The Singularity Is Near where he calls out the singularity is also the point at which machines' intelligence and humans would merge.
While the singularity will have wide-spread implications, I am going to focus on human health. My goal is for everyone to live longer, live healthier, live happier, and prosper. A critical path to succeed with those goals is to surround ourselves with the right people for friendship, for business, and to find love.
The Four Pillars of a Successful Singularity
For the singularity to succeed from a human perspective, I believe we should focus on four things:
- Quantified Self
- AI in the loop
- Reflection
- Human Interaction
Quantified Self
While the practices go back to the 1970's, the term quantified self was proposed in 2007 by Wired magazine editors Gary Wolf and Kevin Kelly.
The theory is simple: If you want to improve yourself, you must first get baseline data, then make the change(s), and then collect more data to validate or refute the theory. And yes, N=1 is a poor sample size and there is no control, but, this early research blazes the trail for others to follow.
AI in the Loop
A fun flip of human-in-the-loop, where us humans go about our day and occasionally AI is pulled in to help us catch an issue or move past a problem. This interruption is already happening in AI interpreted meetings where participants are prodded, out of band, to clarify important points.
The future will have AI "guardian" angels keeping an eye on us, and providing redirection when appropriate.
Reflection
In addition to any AI-in-the-loop during the day, a daily reflection helps us consume important points from the day and react appropriately. This reflection will leverage the diarization, summarization, and recommendations that have only recently become available.
Human Interaction
A society in which people are not connected is but a shell. We must strive towards a healthy society where human-to-human communication, recreation, and relaxation is the norm and a daily occurance.
